Total ROI versus annualized ROI
Total ROI divides the net gain by the initial investment to express the whole period's return as a single percentage. But earning 50% over two years is not the same as 50% over five. Annualized ROI uses the compound growth rate to reduce the return to an equal yearly rate, letting you compare investments of different lengths fairly. That is why annualized figures are the better guide for long-term decisions.
Reading the results correctly
The multiplier shows how many times your money grew; ×1.5 means the investment reached one and a half times its start. Net gain reports the absolute profit or loss in currency. This tool does not account for inflation, taxes, transaction fees or interim cash flows; it simply compares the entry and exit values. To see your true net return, fold those costs into the final value before calculating.

How is the annualized ROI calculated?
It takes the ratio of final value to initial value, raises it to the power of one divided by the number of years, then subtracts one. This is the compound annual growth rate (CAGR), which puts investments of different lengths on the same scale.
What does a negative ROI mean?
If the final value is lower than the initial investment, ROI comes out negative, meaning you lost money. The tool shows this result in red, and the net gain appears as a negative amount.
