Markup Calculator

Compute selling price, profit and margin from cost and markup percentage — perfect for pricing.

What does this tool do?

The Markup Calculator computes selling price, profit and margin from a cost and a markup percentage. Enter how much you add on top of a product to see the final price and the true margin at a glance.

How to use it

  1. Enter your values into the fields.
  2. The result is calculated instantly.
  3. Read or copy the result.

The method

Selling price = cost × (1 + markup%/100). Profit = selling price − cost, and margin % = (profit / selling price) × 100. Because markup is measured against cost while margin is measured against the selling price, the two values differ.

Common use cases

Retailers use it to set shelf prices, freelancers to build service quotes, and wholesalers to plan profit targets. It helps you price any item with a known cost consistently.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between markup and margin?

Markup is profit relative to cost, while margin is profit relative to the selling price, so a 50% markup corresponds to roughly a 33% margin.

Can I work backwards from a target selling price?

Yes — if you know the cost and selling price, solve markup% = ((price − cost) / cost) × 100 to recover the markup.
