What does this tool do?
Speed Calculator lets you enter any two of speed, distance, and time to find the third: it computes average speed, the distance covered, or the time elapsed. You can enter time in hours and minutes and switch between metric (km/h, km) and imperial (mph, miles) units, making it ideal for runners, drivers, cyclists, and trip planners.
How to use it
- Enter your values into the fields.
- The result is calculated instantly.
- Read or copy the result.
Pick the value you want to find
'Find speed' divides distance by time to give average speed. 'Find distance' multiplies speed by time. 'Find time' divides distance by speed and shows the total as hours and minutes (for example 2h 30m). You enter time in separate hours and minutes boxes, so a value like '2 hours 15 minutes' works without converting it to a decimal yourself.
Metric and imperial units
Switch between km/h and km or mph and miles with a single tap. In metric mode the result also shows its imperial equivalent; for instance a computed km/h value appears in mph and a km value appears in miles right below. All calculations run instantly in your browser, no data is sent to a server, and you can copy the result with one click.
Frequently asked questions
How do I enter the time?
Time is entered in separate hours and minutes fields. The tool converts them to hours internally (minutes ÷ 60), so a value like '1 hour 45 minutes' works without you converting it to a decimal.
What formulas does it use?
Three core relationships: Speed = Distance ÷ Time, Distance = Speed × Time, and Time = Distance ÷ Speed. The value it returns is the average speed; it does not account for moment-to-moment changes along the way.
Can I see a km/h result in mph too?
Yes. In metric mode the speed and distance results are shown with their imperial equivalents (km/h is multiplied by about 0.621 to give mph).
