What does this tool do?
This power calculator raises a base to any exponent and shows the result instantly, while also computing its square, cube, square root, and cube root. It's a handy math tool for students, engineers, and anyone who needs quick exponentiation.
How to use it
- Enter your values into the fields.
- The result is calculated instantly.
- Read or copy the result.
Powers and roots on one screen
Enter a value in the base and exponent fields and the tool displays base-to-the-power-of-exponent in a large, clear figure. At the same time you see four extra results below: the square, cube, square root, and cube root of the base. The exponent can be decimal or negative, so you can compute things like 2 to the -3 or 9 to the 0.5 (a square root). Very large results automatically switch to scientific notation.
Frequently asked questions
Can I enter a negative or decimal exponent?
Yes. The exponent field accepts any number. A negative exponent inverts the result (2 to the -2 = 0.25), and a fractional exponent corresponds to a root (8 to the 0.5 ≈ 2.83).
Why can't I take the square root of a negative number?
The square root of a negative value is undefined in real numbers, so you'll see a dash in the square root cell. The cube root, however, works for negative bases; for example, the cube root of -8 is -2.
Why do very large results look like 1e+20?
When the result grows very large, the tool switches to scientific notation to stay readable. 1e+20 means the digit 1 followed by 20 zeros.
