Simple average, weighted average and letter grade
The tool shows two results side by side: the simple average counts every subject equally, while the weighted average multiplies each score by its credits and divides by total credits. So a 4-credit Physics score of 76 pulls the average more than a 2-credit subject would. Both numbers are converted to letter grades, letting you read the numeric and letter equivalents at a glance.
Percentage-to-letter grade ranges
Letters are assigned on these thresholds: 97+ is A+, 93–96 A, 90–92 A-, 87–89 B+, 83–86 B, 80–82 B-, 77–79 C+, 73–76 C, 70–72 C-, 67–69 D+, 60–66 D, and below 60 is F. Frequently asked questions
What's the difference between the simple and weighted average?
The simple average treats every subject equally. The weighted average multiplies each grade by its credits, so higher-credit courses influence the result more — the method most schools actually use.
Which percentages map to which letter grades?
For example 95 → A, 88 → B+, 76 → C, 60 → D. Full ranges: A+ 97+, A 93–96, A- 90–92, B+ 87–89, B 83–86 and so on, with anything below 60 graded F.
What if I set every subject's credits to the same value?
If all credits are equal, the weighted average equals the simple average, because no subject carries more weight than another.
