Work Hours Calculator

Calculate work hours and pay

What does this tool do?

Work Hours Calculator works out your net worked hours and the matching pay by entering a start time, end time, and break for each workday. Set your hourly rate and currency, and the tool instantly shows total hours, total pay, and the daily average. It is handy for hourly employees, freelancers, and anyone tracking their time.

How to use it

  1. Enter your values into the fields.
  2. The result is calculated instantly.
  3. Read or copy the result.

How hours and pay are calculated

For each row, the tool subtracts the start time from the end time, then deducts the break minutes you entered, and converts the remaining time into hours to find that day's net worked time. Negative results are clamped to zero, so a mistyped time never produces negative pay. The daily pay is those hours multiplied by your hourly rate. All days are summed for total hours and total pay, while the daily average is the total hours divided by the number of days.

Entering breaks correctly

The break field is in minutes and is subtracted from that day's working time. For example, if you worked 09:00 to 17:00 with a 60-minute break, the day is calculated as 7 hours. Enter your unpaid breaks here to reduce gross time down to the real hours worked. The table shows the five days of the working week by default; you can edit each row with your own date, times, and break values, then copy the result with a single click.

Frequently asked questions

Is the break time subtracted from total hours?

Yes. The break minutes you enter for each day are deducted from the span between the end and start times. The remaining time is shown as that day's net worked hours.

What happens if I enter an end time before the start?

If the calculated time would be negative, the tool clamps it to zero, so you never get negative hours or pay. Make sure to enter the times in the correct order.

Can it handle shifts that cross midnight?

The tool treats start and end as being on the same day. An overnight shift would produce a negative span that gets clamped to zero, so it is best to split such shifts into two separate rows.
