What does this tool do?
The MAC Address Generator creates random MAC addresses for network testing and device configuration. You can choose the separator format, set an optional OUI prefix, and control whether the addresses are locally administered or unicast. It's ideal for network admins, developers, and anyone building test scenarios.
How to use it
- Enter an address, domain or value.
- View the results instantly.
- Copy the details you need.
What the local and unicast bits do
The first byte of a MAC address carries two meaningful bits. Turning on the "locally administered" bit flags the address as manually defined rather than a globally assigned, vendor-burned address, which makes it safe for testing without collision risk. The "unicast" bit determines whether the address targets a single device or a group (multicast). The tool sets these bits automatically based on your checkbox choices, so the output is always technically valid.
Mimicking a vendor with an OUI prefix
Enter a three-byte value like 00:1A:2B in the Prefix (OUI) field and every generated address will start with that prefix while the remaining three bytes stay random. This is useful for building test data that resembles addresses from a specific hardware vendor. The Count field lets you produce anywhere from 1 to 20 addresses at once, and you can copy each one individually or copy them all together.
Frequently asked questions
Which separator formats are available?
You can choose colon (00:1A:2B), hyphen (00-1A-2B), dot (001A.2B...), or no separator for a continuous string. The output uses whichever format you select.
Will the generated addresses collide with a real device?
Keeping the locally administered bit on flags the addresses as outside the global vendor range, which minimizes the chance of overlapping with a real burned-in hardware address.
How many MAC addresses can I generate at once?
Set the Count field to any value from 1 to 20 and a single click produces that many addresses ready to copy.
