What does this tool do?
The Passphrase Generator combines random words into passwords that are easy to remember but hard to guess. It produces five candidates at once using your browser's cryptographic random source, making it ideal for anyone who wants strong yet memorable credentials.
How to use it
- Choose the required options or length.
- Generate the secure result.
- Copy and store the result safely.
Why word-based passwords?
Stringing together a few random words is far easier for human memory than cryptic character soup, while still delivering high entropy. The tool lets you pick from 3 to 8 words, and each extra word reduces guessability exponentially. You can separate words with a hyphen, underscore, dot or space, capitalize the first letters, and append a two-digit number to add even more variation to the result.
Reading the entropy estimate
On every generation the tool shows an approximate bits-of-entropy figure based on your chosen word count and whether a number is appended. This number roughly describes how resistant your passphrase is to brute-force guessing: more bits means more possible combinations. For important accounts, four to five words plus an appended number is usually a solid balance.
Frequently asked questions
How many candidates are generated?
Each time you click Generate, five different passphrases matching your settings are listed so you can pick the one you like best.
Can I change the word count and separator?
Yes. Use the slider to choose between 3 and 8 words, and pick a hyphen, underscore, dot or space as the separator. You can also toggle capitalization and number appending.
Are the words truly random?
Yes, selection uses your browser's crypto.getRandomValues, a cryptographically secure source rather than the weaker Math.random.
