What does this tool do?
Character Frequency counts how many times each character appears in a text and ranks them from most to least common. It offers fast visual analysis for writers, linguists, puzzle and cipher enthusiasts, and anyone doing data work.
How to use it

Visual bars and percentages
Each character is listed with a horizontal bar showing its frequency, with the most common character getting the longest bar. Next to it you see the raw count and its share of the total (for example 'e' → 12 (8.3%)). Space characters are shown with the ␣ symbol. You can set how many characters appear, from 1 to 50, to keep the list as long or as short as you like.
Flexible counting options
Two checkboxes let you tailor the analysis: 'Ignore spaces' strips all whitespace, while 'Case insensitive' merges A and a into a single character. Results can be copied with one click; the output contains tab-separated columns of character, count and percentage, so you can paste it straight into a spreadsheet.
Frequently asked questions
Are uppercase and lowercase counted separately?
By default 'Case insensitive' is on, so 'A' and 'a' are counted together. Uncheck that box to have the tool count letters separately by case.
Are spaces included in the count?
By default spaces are ignored. If you uncheck 'Ignore spaces', whitespace characters are also counted and shown in the list with the ␣ symbol.
How are the percentages calculated?
Each percentage is that character's count divided by the total number of characters analyzed; that total depends on your chosen space and case settings.
